How Bad Do You Want It?

I spend most of December assessing my year and how I could be of better service to you. My wins (I always start with my wins), my “losses” – and can they be salvaged or should I toss, and my in-betweens (where I didn’t give something my full effort)..I found a lot of those…Mediocrity and, in my world, it’s partner in crime, inconsistency was the death of many of my worth-while ventures.
I say most…the rest of the time was spent spiralling down the rabbit hole and not being in integrity with myself. I did not practice self-care, nor did I keep with the healthy plan that I set out for myself..
I wasn’t doing the simple things, instead I was…
- Getting less than 5 hours sleep a night.
- Not eating my veggies (and I love veggies)
- Not limiting my sweets (chocolate is good for you, after all.)
- Not Exercising.
AND GUESS WHAT???
I started the new year with about 10 extra pounds of blubber. (You know, that stuff that juggles when you move.) And – my first reaction was to beat myself up: How could you let yourself go? Why didn’t you control yourself? You’re a health coach for goodness sake!…..blah,blah,blah! Like that was going to help.
Then, I followed with “reasons” for it happening.
- It was, after all, the holidays.
- I really didn’t eat that much.
- It’s my metabolism.
- And on and on and on…I had a dozen or more!
Luckily, I didn’t wallow for too long. You see – that was not a solution; it got me nowhere. Instead, it kept me stuck.
And when I came to my senses..
I made resolutions, set, goals, intentions, plans – whatever you want to call them – to get myself back on track.
And now, here we are…almost a full week into 2017, and I’m good. Not that I’ve lost the 10 pounds – but I know I will. And I already feel so much better.
How’s it going for you? Are you carrying some extra holiday weight? Have you come up with a plan?
Or maybe a better question is How bad do you want it? How badly do you want to lose the weight? Get your health in check?
I was recently speaking with a friend on the phone. She called me because her doctor told her she had to lose weight and she wanted my help. She was facing the probability of knee surgery, and it couldn’t be done unless she lost 20 pounds. She was in a lot of pain and could only walk for short distances. But she didn’t want to give up her morning bagel, or her afternoon cocktail, or a long list of other things. When we started working on mindset, she was very resistant.
She couldn’t see her why. Facing surgery wasn’t big enough for her. The pain she suffered on a regular basis wasn’t big enough for her. We finally found a big enough reason for her to want it badly — her children.
We then went to work on her blocks…what was really holding her back from losing the weight. Why she was coming up with all the reasons she couldn’t. As Robert Anthony says “You can only have two things in life, reasons and results. Reasons don’t count.” So, getting past your “reasons” is imperative to reaching your goal.
What are you willing to do for the new and Improved YOU? That’s not to say that there is anything wrong with you now – but, as Sr. Mary Andrews told us in 2nd grade “There’s always room for improvement – only God is perfect.”.
So, your turn now.
What is your goal?
What is your why?
What are your “reasons”?
How bad do you want it?
